Services Provided and Fees Charged
Most services at UHS are pre-paid via the tuition. However, students are strongly encouraged to obtain supplemental health insurance to cover such services as emergency and hospital care, specialist care, laboratory care, and ambulance transport. We urge all students to check with their family insurance agent or consider obtaining a student insurance plan. To obtain a student insurance plan through the university, you can call 346-4646.
We provide the following services listed below. They are generally provided without any additional fees except as noted:
- Outpatient care is handled on an appointment basis except for emergencies
- Laboratory work (minimal charges for some tests)
- Pharmacy (minimal charges for some medication)
- Allergy shots / Immunizations by appointment
- Minor surgery, suture (stitches) insertion and removal, mole removals, wart removals, and biopsies (charges apply for some services)
- Physical examinations and updates
- Physical therapy provided per referral
- Telephone consultation with medical staff is available.
- Crutches, canes, splints, and other orthopedic devices are available on loan
- Contraception and genito-urinary care
- Reproductive and gynecologic examinations
- Colposcopy and cryosurgery services
- STD screening, counseling, and treatment for women and men
Important Notes:
- During the summer, we have reduced staffing. Our lab is not open, and we have reduced pharmacy hours. Clinical services during the summer do not include: routine preventive services such as annual PAP and pelvic exams, job physicals, and clearance for job related issues.
- ]X-Rays and specialty physicians are not available through the Health Service, but are available across the street at St. Michael's Hospital and the Rice Clinic. (Students are responsible for the payment of these outside services).
- Counseling services are provided by the University Counseling Center. It is located on the third floor of Delzell Hall. Please call 346-3553 to schedule an appointment.
- After-hours care is available through the Emergency Room at St. Michael's Hospital. (Students are responsible for the payment of these outside services).
