About SHAC

The Student Health Advisory Committee is a campus group made up primarily of students that serves as an advisory, liaison, and outreach function between students, the Student Health Service, and the campus Administration.

The goal of SHAC is to assist in promoting the general health and well-being of the UWSP students, including facilitating, publicizing, and improving Student Health Services.  To this end, SHAC periodically obtains and evaluates information regarding the health concerns and health care needs of students, including Student Health Service programs and policies and utilizes this information in making recommendations to the campus and the Health Service.

The committee can assist in establishing a two-way system of communication:  informing the Student Health Service of the needs of the students and by informing the university community of the services which the Student Health Center can provide.

SHAC is organized to assist in making the Student Health Service and its education program as efficient and effective as possible in order that the university community is served to the greatest advantage.

SHAC is one of several hundred such student advocacy organizations nationwide, which are members of the American College Health Association (ACHA).  In addition to SHAC's activities during the school year, SHAC members may attend the annual ACHA convention as student delegates.
